Toys in every store

But the prettiest sight to see, is the holly that will be

On your own front door

Can you feel that excitement? Christmas is in the air. I love all the unique traditions, old and new, that were reflected in last week’s party. When I saw the beautiful quilt that Gluesticks linked my heart stopped a little. What is it about a quilt that brings to mind cozy memories of the past? I am always glad to meet another quilt lover.

Must be Santa!

I love Santa and every year a highlight of my decorating is the arrangement of the many unique versions I have of the Jolly Old Elf. I have Santas from far and wide… traditional and some a bit strange. There was a tense moment this year when we thought the Princess’ fear of the man in the flesh would transfer to my smaller, non-living collection. It was to great relief that she has chosen to ignore them with barely a sideways glance when she passes them!

I have picked out a few of my favorites this week to feature with more to come in the next few weeks!

Special Santas have a place of honor on our mantel. Our Swedish Santa, kokeshi Santa and iron nail Santa were picked out on journeys around the world. The beautiful red vintage Santa was made by my favorite folk artist Kim Sweet. Her work is getting harder to find and I am so thankful to have a few of her lovely Santas in my home.

Two more Santas from Kim Sweet in our bedroom. I just love how she crafts the faces with so much character.

A buoy Santa from Maine was purchased on our honeymoon. A carved German Santa and another Kim Sweet doll keep him company.

Waiting for Santa to arrive on a fire truck was a bit scary but the Princess felt safe up on her hero’s shoulders!

Christmas has arrived in my house! I love my home decked out in glory…sometimes the process to get it there can be less than stress free. How do you handle those less than storybook moments? One of my favorite things to display during the holidays is my collection of Santas. There was a little peek this week on my blog, but this weekend will be all about that jolly old elf. The Magic of Christmas!

There is a certain peace that comes over you when you look around your home and think to yourself ” I am ready for the holiday season”. This,of course, comes after hauling around the boxes in the basement, weeding out the things you can’t believe you saved, fussing at your Hero about stocking positions and panicking over the missing shepherd in one of the many Nativities you own. Add a curious Princess who just wants to “help Mama” as she dismantles and rehangs all the ornaments on the lower third of the Christmas tree and the joy of the season can evaporate quicker than a bottle of peppermint essential oil with the cap left ajar. But we survived and yes,I think we are ready for blessed Yuletide.

The Princess has graduated to open pocket doors! The room seems bigger and not as crowded…almost.

Oh how I love a pretty mantel. Especially when it features some of my favorite Santas collected from, well, everywhere.

A vintage suitcase filled with gold trees…why not!

I was gifted this beautiful red and white enamelware pan, the perfect place for my Grandmother’s little church and Polish pottery trees. The nativities are from adventures in Japan and India.
