Even More Treasures From Another Land

Last week was a long week. I’m not going to lie…I couldn’t wait for the weekend to arrive. And then it did! Maybe others feel this way, but I love weekends spent in my home with my Princess and my Hero. I enjoy relaxing and moving things from one spot to another, or what I call “shopping the house”. Sometimes things take on a whole new perspective in a new location…and bring back happy memories of adventures in lands far away. I hope they make you smile as well.

From Japan…an antique Temple stick. I don’t know a lot about it but I love the color and the design.

An antique French Bottle drying tree…it was love at first sight!

A happy quintet of musicians from Poland.

A prized possession from England. This clock will always grace my home.

Our stylish and always in motion treasure after church always makes me smile.

A Little Spring…Hopefully

I read a post on Facebook commenting on the lovely winter we are having this Spring. I still can’t believe that winter wear is still hanging in my hall closet and the pool opens in like a month. We are beginning to see a few glimpses here and there, and it makes me happy to see a lighter touch reflected in my decor. How does Spring look in your corner of the world?

Purple bottles and botanical prints on a mantel are a springtime favorite.

These pretty little flowers are from our front garden. They must be pretty hardy.

A window display cheers up a dreary day on the front porch.

I’ll let you in on a secret. These cherry blossoms are not real… but they still make me happy!

,

Yes, gardening in the Springtime is good for the soul.

Friday Favorites #422

We have been pretty busy lately. Spring always seems so full of activity. Thank goodness the lazier days of Summer are right around the corner. In the meantime, I’m going to try to upgrade on the canned spaghetti sauce that seems to be in constant rotation in our house!img_1574Spring has returned!

Friday Favorites #421

One of the best parts of a warm Spring afternoon is hanging out on an old fashioned front porch sharing laughs and, quite often, drinks with family and friends. Homemade ginger Liqueur?  Yes Please!

Beautiful Lancaster County

We headed off to a great adventure this week! Lancaster, Pennsylvania is a short drive from Annapolis and a wonderful place to just relax and enjoy life at a slower pace… well as slow as you can be with a newly turned five year old Princess in tow!

The Turkey Hill Farm experience was lots of fun. I recommend the ice cream tasting!

The Amish horse and buggies are picturesque and make the drive so interesting.

This view!

If I won the lottery, all these quilts, and many more, would come home with me.

She’s five…how is that even possible?

Hidden Strawberry Bread

I am calling this hidden strawberry bread. The reason? While pursuing the contents of our backup basement freezer my Hero found a bag of strawberries way in the back from our strawberry picking experience from last May. What a find! It’s a simple quick bread and I am quite proudly using coconut oil for the first time…I’m a little late to that party apparently.

The Usual Cast Of Characters

1 1/2. cups all-purpose flour

1/2. cup sugar

2 1/2. teaspoons baking powder

1/2. teaspoon salt

1. egg, lightly beaten

1/2. cup mashed banana (1 large)

1/2. cup milk

1/3. cup coconut oil, heated if needed to become more liquid

1/2. cup sliced strawberries

The Steps to Glory

1. Heat oven to 350°F. Grease 8×4-inch loaf pan with shortening or cooking spray.

2. In large bowl, stir together flour, sugar, coconut, baking powder and salt; make well in center of mixture.

3. In medium bowl, beat egg, mashed banana, milk and oil with whisk until well blended. Add wet mixture to dry ingredients, stirring just until moistened. Stir in the strawberries. Spoon batter into pan.

4. Bake 45 to 60 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Remove from pan to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 1 hour.

Sweet treat with tea!

Did you feel Spring in the air this weekend? Such a lovely Saturday…Sunday not so much. The Princess was inspired by the warm weather and decided sketching in the garden was good way to spend the day.
