Hurray It’s October!

October

BY ROBERT FROST

O hushed October morning mild,

Thy leaves have ripened to the fall;

Tomorrow’s wind, if it be wild,

Should waste them all.

The crows above the forest call;

Tomorrow they may form and go.

O hushed October morning mild,

Begin the hours of this day slow.

Make the day seem to us less brief.

Hearts not averse to being beguiled,

Beguile us in the way you know.

Release one leaf at break of day;

At noon release another leaf;

One from our trees, one far away.

Retard the sun with gentle mist;

Enchant the land with amethyst

Slow, slow!

For the grapes’ sake, if they were all,

Whose leaves already are burnt with frost,

Whose clustered fruit must else be lost—

For the grapes’ sake along the wall.

Welcome to my favorite month. Let Fall begin…with a little apple picking!

  1. “For the grapes’ sake . . .”
    And for my tomatoes’ sake!
    I’m heading out to pick the last of the red ones today, just in case October decides not to be mild, in spite of Robert’s lovely beseeching.

  2. You porch looks so welcoming. Makes me miss our wonderful porch on KY house oldest son built for us. We have uncovered small front porch now at our CO house. Do what I can to make it comfy and welcoming. Your rocking chair with throw and pretty decorations say a lot about you. Love your welcome to our porch sign. Happy week

  3. I absolutely adore that porch… it’s breathtaking… I love how US families really go to town with autumn harvest decorations. Truly inspiring! It doesn’t really happen over here in the uk….

  4. I love your front door. It reminds me of the one I had a my old Victorian house years ago. Love your pictures and that sweet little one looking back at you as you take the picture.

    1. The porch is definitely a showstopper for this Foursquare. Many of the houses in the neighborhood had porches converted into additional room during the 1970’s so happy this one survived intact.
