There is something in my kitchen that makes me smile each morning…
Beside my Princess in the basket…
Something I have been collecting for a while, much to the amusement of my mother, who used it daily during her childhood…
Vintage enamelware…preferably Red and White but I am not picky…
Just the sight of it makes clean-up a joy…most of the time.
It even brings beauty to the awkward corner of the counter only assessable by step-stool…slight exaggeration…embrace the challenges of life!
It inspires another attempt toward the perfect sourdough bread…my husband says that I have already achieved this goal but he never says no to a fresh loaf.
I don’t know if it is the sweet, rugged beauty of the actual pieces or the simple, wholesome era they represent…all I know is my heart beats faster when I spot a that flash of enamel…and I will always find a place for it in my home

What wonderful pieces of enamelware, Amy! You have a fabulous collection of it. I think for myself, enamelware represents both vintage beauty and the wholesomeness of a bygone era. It is hard to find here where I live. Your little one is adorable, by the way. Thank you for sharing with us and have a delightful day.
Blessings,
Sandi

My mother had a white and red enamel dishpan like the one hanging on the side of the island. She didn’t use it for washing dishes, but often for mixing up large amounts of bread dough or muffin batter. You have a wonderful collection here — and your little princess is so sweet in her smocked dress.

It is getting more difficult to find. One thing about living in Annapolis is there is not much competition for the vintage pieces…most DC Metro Antique shoppers are after the real deal museum quality pieces…a little out of my budget!

The red and white is getting a bit difficult to find. I actually have some more in storage that I just couldn’t find space for in our rental. After my husband retires from the military it is time to find a house of our own and a big kitchen will be a must!

There is something especially wonderful about vintage kitchen items.
To me it means a great cook somewhere in the past cooked with them.
I love that.

The blue and white is so pretty as well. My Great Grandmother had an entire kitchen of red and white enamelware I have been told. I think this is why I am so drawn to the color combination.
