Crazy About Quilts

OK, I am ready to admit it. I have a problem with a certain soft item…

image

I must have them all over the house…

image

Yes! I am crazy about quilts. There is something about them…all of them…pristine ones from a long stored hope chest…

image

Well loved ones that have kept babies warm and served as forts for active little boys for generations…

image

But I ask you, who could resist the colorful charm…or the ability to literally touch the past?

image

Perhaps you can even touch generations back on your own family tree…

image

A treasured past to pass down to our future…

  1. Such beautiful quilts! My grandmother always made beautiful quilts. Unfortunately I don’t have any of them. They really are a wonderful item to have in one’s home. I love all those beautiful pillows on the bed with the red and white quilt; very pretty! Thanks for sharing.

    Blessings,

    1. I am blessed to have several quilts from my Grandmother…lots of flour sack material! My mother even recognizes pieces from her childhood dresses. Thank you for your kind comment. I love red and pops of it appear in every room.

  2. I love your quilts! I am a quilter and make new traditional style quilts, but I have an extra fondness for old quilts. I have repaired many old quilts and always with a kinship with the original quilter when I’m working on one.

    1. I wish I quilted. I have a few of my Grandmother’s quilts that have scraps of my Mother’s baby clothes. They are beautiful pieces of art and it breaks my heart to see them buried in antique shops…I like to rescue them.

  3. Oh my goodness:
I do adore your Quilt Collection. I look at them all the time and love the old ones. I do have some but not as many as you! I love that butterfly one on top thought the door. How perfectly charming your home is! And the little girl with the “G” – how precious. When my daughter was young I did do a lot of sewing for her too!

  11. I’m one who appreciates quilts too. I have many old ones and a few that I’ve done myself since retiring. The history of the designs and the fabrics as well as the workmanship in these pieces make me value them as pieces of art. I like the way you’ve rolled some and placed them in the dough bowl. I have our quilts on beds, stacked on shelves, one hung on the wall, and more hanging on the rungs of a vintage ladder. Thanks for sharing your collection. It’s lovely!

So much love and time goes into each quilt. I love that I can give them a new home.

  17. I love your quilts. Have always wanted a “real” one. By that, I mean one either made for me, or passed down. Well, a few months ago, Carl’s sister gave us a quilt that had belonged to someone in the family (neither of them could figure out who, though). Unfortunately, it is in an advanced state of decline. . .so I am thinking of salvaging parts of it that are not totally threadbare, and perhaps framing those pieces. Some of the fabric patterns look very old. You have quite a lovely collection! And your little girl is adorable!

    1. A few of the oldest ones are in pristine condition. Most likely they spent a lot of time in a hope chest. I have a soft spot for the hard working ones, tattered and all I love the idea of framing pieces. I think it would be a show stopping display.
