My Patriotic Sled was featured at Let’s keep in Touch hosted by Let’s Add Sprinkles. Very excited!!

The house smells like fall today! It is very comforting. You just want to curl up with a book and inhale the aroma of this yummy apple crisp just baking away in the oven. It is so easy to make and so easy to personalize…the candied ginger is all my doing! Next time maybe coconut…or caramel…or white chocolate…image the possibilities…

The usual Cast of Characters

1 cup brown sugar

1 cup rolled oats

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup butter, melted

3 cups apples – peeled, cored and chopped

1/2 cup white sugar

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

2 Tablespoon chopped candied ginger

The Steps to Glory

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease an 8-inch square pan.
2. In a large bowl, combine brown sugar, oats, flour and butter and candied ginger. Mix until crumbly. Place half of crumb mixture in pan.
3. Spread the apples evenly over crumb mixture. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon and top with remaining crumb mixture.
4. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, or until golden brown.

Yesterday something just clicked and suddenly it’s Fall! Pumpkins no longer look out of place, the trees have decided to show their real color and I actually crave Pumpkin Spice everything! Fall, my most favorite season of the year. It was delightful to enjoy a football game wearing a sweatshirt yesterday. A Navy win…sorry Air Force. Enjoy a few peeks of my home dressed in wonderful Fall…

So excited to have Hooray For the Red White and Blue to be featured Little Cottage Link hosted by Love My Little Cottage.

OK, tomorrow is the last day of September. So far this month, I have attended football games in shorts, picked apples in 90 degree heat and found pumpkin spice coffee far from appealing. Where are you, Fall? School has started, the leaves have a slight tingle of scarlet, you can buy pumpkins at farm stands along the road (you can also buy Christmas decor at Target, but I’ll leave that for a other times) and my boots stand ready to go. Summer, you had your day in the sun. I love you but it’s time to move on. I’m ready for sweater weather, chilly evenings with a fire, steamy cups of hot cider and crunchy leaves. I can see Fall peeking around the corner, but Fall needs to come out already…I don’t want to swelter in the pumpkin patch.
