Great Kitchen Reveal Part 1

Some really incredible things happened in the early 1990’s. The first cell phones burst on the scene, the Hubble Space telescope was launched and the World Wide Web became a real thing! Also, my kitchen was apparently remodeled. As a renter, you see the challenge of “resourcefulness and just make do”. As an owner, you see dated cabinets, bad paint color and well past their prime appliances. Alas, a full kitchen renovation is just not in the cards right now…but a Gal can dream. In the meantime, it is miraculous what a fresh coat of paint (on the walls and cabinets), some beadboard (for a backsplash) and some great vintage finds (chicken feeders into light fixtures) can do for a space…thanks to a handy Hero!

  2. Looks adorable ! Lovable all your goodies ! One kind suggestion from an outside observer !i don’t think the toile curtains work with the look of country! Would suggest red and white check or gingham valances I always comment on your blog and adore your daughter too ! She is a doll ! So , please don’t get offended but the solid red or gingham check would finish the look perfectly ! The toile is too French country looking ! Xoxxxo Cindy

    1. Alas, new curtains would have to wait until after the holiday spending. One issue we have living in a 100 year old Sears Kit House is the uneven nature of things…mainly windows and doors. Our kitchen windows are actually 3 different widths and heights…adds to the charm I guess. Hopefully my grand kitchen plan will not be too far in the future. I would love to extend the kitchen with sunroom with pretty French doors looking over the backyard. In the meantime, I love suggestions and ideas! I do love gingham!

      1. You can find valances on Amazon for under 20 dollars ! Doesn’t matter if windows are different size! You can scrunch together or spread out a little !

  3. The Hero did a fantastic job, the kitchen looks so bright and cheery! I love the spaces above your cabinets for displaying many of your delightful things. Mine go all the way to the ceiling and I’ve never liked it. Some things must be accepted. The Princess is just a ray of sunshine, what an adorable little face! Thank-you for this post, love your charming home!

  14. Your kitchen turned out great! It is “happy”, so bright with the new paint and the other touches you’ve added look amazing! I help with the OCC drop off at our church, such an amazing ministry! Your little one is adorable as always and I pray the child receiving her box will be blessed beyond measure!

  18. Your kitchen is beautiful. It looks homey and lived in (in a good way!). I’ve seen so many pix that look like no one lives there; you could do surgery on the empty countertops. That’s not home to me. Your cutie is adorable; here in Maine, they ran out of shoeboxes so we used red and green plastic shoeboxes from Dollar Tree! Having the kids bring them up is such a good idea; I raised mine to give back and they do!

    1. I pray her heart always stays tender and humble. It’s a wonderful way for the little ones to serve.
      Our kitchen is very lived in right now. And I am so happy to spend time there now. We definitely live her!

    1. She really took the Shoebox ministry to heart this Christmas! I pray she always has that tender heart. I feel like I can breathe again in my own kitchen. Hopefully we will have a total reno in a few years but I am more than pleased with how it looks now.
