Last week was Spring break for the Naval Academy and the Princess’ school. It was also shaping up to be a snowy, cold time in Annapolis. So we packed up and headed a little bit south to the cute town of Cambridge Md. My hero and I have visited before but this was a first for the Princess. There was an indoor pool and nightly S’Mores. She was happy.
Cambridge was a thriving small town at one time but had suffered from some rough days in the last decades. Slowly, people have rediscovered the lovely old homes and darling Main Street atmosphere and gorgeous views of the Chesapeake and a revitalized movement has taken over. The town had a much needed boost when the Hyatt Regency built a beautiful spa and resort there which hosted a US Republican Conference in 2007. It is also a designated Maryland Main Street community, a process created by the Maryland Housing Department to preserve and strengthen the history and heritage of small towns and increase tourism. Each time we return my hero and I are pleasantly surprised at the new stores and restaurants that have opened! Always a wonderful , relaxing experience for us in every season!

Before we had a Princess in our lives, my hero and I enjoyed staying at quaint little bed and breakfasts like Cambridge House. Quaint and a three year old just don’t fit together, but if you are looking for that romantic atmosphere, try this charming place…maybe I will see you there…maybe in ten years.
Bay Country Antiques is a little ways out of town but it is a must see! The place is huge and packed with awesome vintage and antique finds.
And last but not least…The favorite activity for the Princess…and me as well….nightly S’mores. Could life get any better?

A Day of Small Things... 
The Princess looks very, very happy enjoying those S’mores and beyond adorable too! Your Spring break sounds like fun. Such beautiful photos of intriguing places to discover next visit to Maryland. I lived in Baltimore back in the late 60’s and it has always been special to me. Thank-you for sharing this lovely post.

It was a fun getaway. We like to explore Baltimore as well! The Princess has quite a few appointments at Johns Hopkins…that part of Baltimore I am happy to explore from the safety of my car. As she gets older we hope to take advantage of the cultural beauty of the area.

I don’t have as much time now as I did in the past to explore the big antique malls. My husband probably appreciates that. I still manage to find some interesting things on occasion.

My grandmother grew up in Cambridge and still lives there. We visit there quite often. So many great little nooks and crannies in town.

That gorgeous little face gets me every time. I can’t believe how big she’s gotten. Cambridge really does look like a quaint little town, I’d spend hours in those antique shops.

I love s’mores! Isn’t it great when hotels have fun stuff for the kids? I lived in Alexandria VA while I went to law school in D.C. My then boyfriend (now husband) lived in Laurel, Md. I love old town Alexandria! This summer my husband is retiring from the Navy and looking for a practice. We are pretty set on staying in Annapolis, but he will job hunt in DC. The Eastern Shore is so close and hopefully we can spend some more time there!

What a lovely trip! I just adore the exterior of the Bay Antiques Shop. I have been enjoying small towns myself lately, so wonderful. I also enjoy the B & Bs. But a full service Hotel can always be fun as well!

I do miss the quant B&Bs we stayed in pre-Princess but it seems such a small thing to give up to have her. We love to explore small towns close to home. The smaller the better. It is nice to come home to our small urban town however!
